William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878), an American poet and journalist, was editor of the New York Evening Post from 1829-1878. Referred to by James Fennimore Cooper as “the author of America,” William Cullen Bryant’s contributions as a romantic poet, editor and intellectual made him one of the most beloved authors of the nineteenth century.
