Description
John Howard Payne (1791-1852) was an American actor, playwright, and songwriter (“Home Sweet Home”). He was the American Consul to Tunis, and was the travelling partner of John James Audubon. Payne was also well known for lobbying against the forced removal of the Cherokee tribe to the trans-Mississippi west.
