Portrait after Nehemiah Partridge. Once thought to be a portrait of the founder of Aquidneck Island, Governor William Coddington, this portrait is actually of his grandson, Colonel William Coddington III (1680-1755). Colonel Coddington was a wealthy merchant in Newport who was assistant speaker in the House of Deputies and a justice of the Court of Common Pleas.
