Portrait after Robert Field. John Adams (1735-1826) graduated from Harvard in 1755 and married Abigain Smith, one of America’s first advocates for women’s suffrage. He is well known for his role in the American Revolution, and as second President of the United States (1797-1801). This painting is a copy of a portrait done by Robert Field, to commemorate the death of John Adams.
