Description
Copy after John Singer Sargent. Henry Gurdon Marquand (1819-1902) was a wealthy philanthropist and art collector who single-handedly bolstered the holdings of the Redwood Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Princeton University. He served on the Redwood Library’s Board of Directors from 1887, eventually becoming President in 1895 – a position he held until his death. This particular painting is a copy of one done by John Singer Sargent.
