Description
Ralph Emerson Carpenter, Jr. (born 1910), known in the decorative art world as "Mr. Newport" has a background in mechanical engineeringand a long standing interest in historic preservation. He has been instrumental in the restorations of the Hunter House, Trinity Church, Brick Market Place and the Colony House where he helped to obtain financing and to direct the projects. He published "The Arts and Crafts of Newport, Rhode Island, 1640-1820" in 1953 and in 1993 helped found The Newport Symposium.
