Description
An American Queen Anne walnut highboy (American, possibly Connecticut or Massachusetts, circa 1740); in two parts, the upper section with a molded swan's neck crest centering three spirally turned finials above three short and four long graduated drawers, the top center drawer fan-carved, the lower section with one long and three short molded drawers, the center drawer fan-carved, the shaped skirt below continuing to cabriole legs ending in pad feet, the drawers with contemporary brass handles, some also having brass key escutcheons. The top center, fan-carved drawer bearing a paper label handwritten in black script: "The High boy - in the Hall described in Mr. Hunter's book as 'Maple High boy on cabriole stand, Southern New England. circa - 1740 - the first appearance of shaped pediment.''
