Description
Bannister-back armchair made of Ash; rush seat, painted black; turned stretchers and stiles; back has four half spindles. Belonged to Peleg Peckham who gave it to his son, Thomas Peckham Sr., who passed it to his son, Thomas Peckham, Jr. who passed it onto his daughters, Eliza and Sarah Peckham. The Peckham daughters gave it to their nephew, Stephen Farnum Peckham. Chair was probably made in Rhode Island. Family legend has it that Peleg had it made for his wife, Elizabeth, who was a "large woman." In Peleg's will he referred to it as "one great chair." The rush bottom of the chair was put in, in 1922. Had accompanying desk.
