William Auerbach-Levy (some times Levy, William Auerbach) was a Russian-born Jew who came to America in 1894. He studied in New York and Paris, was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, was in the National Academy of Design. He was well known for his caricatures in The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.
