Sisters Ida and Ellen Mason were Boston and Newport feminists active in the Art Association of Newport, as well as the Civic League and many philanthropic enterprises. Their estate, a Spanish colonial style villa designed by Irving Gill, was on the site of an earlier house remodeled by H.H. Richardson for their father. Located on Rhode Island Avenue, with grounds designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the building presently is home to St. Michael's School.
