Francois Feyeln-Perrin was a very popular painter, trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, famous for his sensitive paintings of women, as well as his idealized portrayals of the fishing community at Cancale. Vincent Van Gogh in a letter to his brother Theo, wrote, "I must tell you, when she is calm, Sien becomes a little mother, so quiet, so delicate, so touching, just like an etching or drawing by Feyen-Perrin."
