Description
A glazed terracotta haut-relief plaque of a seraph (Florence, c. 1490 - 1525) attributed to Andrea Della Robbia. The plaque depicts the haloed head of an infant putto with curly hair, surrounded by three pairs of wings and viewed straight on with his face turned slightly to the right, his eyes raised to heaven. The head is executed in white enamel against a blue enamel ground and set in a 19th century French Renaissance style tabernacle giltwood frame with an inner bead-and-reel border, a floral panel, and an outer egg and dart border with an acanthus carved pendant.
