PORTRAIT OF ELIZABETH DREXEL LEHR (Italian, 1905) by Giovanni Boldini (Italian, 1842-1931). Here Mrs. Harry Lehr, Elizabeth Wharton Drexel of Philadelphia and later Lady Decies, wife of the Fifth Baron Decies (American, 1868-1944) is depicted in a full length portrait, wearing an off shoulder evening gown of orange silk accented with blue, yellow, and silver geometric designs. She wears long white gloves and sapphire earrings, with her dark hair in a chignon. One of her arms extends outward, the other clutches her black Papillion breed dog named Hippodale who wears a pink ribbon. The background features gray-painted French boiseries, parquet de Versailles flooring, and a giltwood Louis XV fauteil. The lower right corner is signed "Boldini 1905" in black script. The stretcher includes a label inscribed "Madam. Harry Symes Lehr 52 Rue des Saint Peres, Paris. Hotel de Cavoie."
