Description
An 1890 oil on canvas portrait study of Cornelius Vanderbilt II (1843-1899) by John Singer Sargent. The portrait depicts New York Central railroad heir Cornelius Vanderbilt II bust-length in a black day suit against a neutral ground, his right hand tucked into his jacket. Mr. Vanderbilt, his mother and siblings commissioned thirteen portraits from Sargent between 1888 and 1906.
