Description
An oil on canvas portrait of Anne of Ditchly (c. 1680) by Sir Peter Lely and Studio. The painting was inscribed c. 1695 at lower left: "Anne one of ye 2 Daughters, & coheirs, of Sr. Hen: Lee/of Ditchly, by Anne/one of ye 2 sisters &/coheirs of Hen: Danvers/who whilst he lived was/heir apparent of Sr John/Danvers wife of Thomas/Wharton, son & heir apparent of P: now Ld. Wharton/1680 about ye age of 20/by Sr Peter Lely [sic]." Contemporary and original ornate giltwood frame by William Kent for Sir Robert Walpole at Houghton. Lely portays Anne in three-quarterlength, in a loose gown, looking to the left, seated in a rustic landscape.
