Description
An Eastlake style lady's writing desk (American, c. 1880), composed of oak with brass fittings, designed by Kimbel & Cabus of New York. The tabernacle shaped top has a slant lid that opens to reveal a compartment above the central cabinet. The central cabinet has incised decoration and elaborate strap hinges. Two drawers with incised decoration and brass pulls flank the central cabinet and the whole is raised on a small arcade. The writing surface is covered in red felt and revealed when the lower incised slant front is unfolded. The slant front can be lifted to reveal another interior compartment. Two lower cabinets flank the kneehole. The trestle feet of the desk are raised on four casters.
