Description
Miniature painting of John Handy in three-quarter pose with powdered hair, blue eyes; facing toward right; wearing white shirt with tie at neck, printed blue and white vest, black coat. Miniature is enclosed in a red leather case. John Handy was a major during the Revolution. On July 19, 1776 he read the Declaration of Independence from the balcony of the Colony House; 50 years later he repeated the performance.
