Letter book belonging to John Banister (1707-1767), Newport merchant. Includes copies of correspondence and an index of names. Front half of book is entitled "Copy Book of Letters/J:B./1748"; includes correspondence dating from 1746-1750. Second half of book was written in the other direction and has an alternate title (see reverse of cover): "Copies of Foreign Correspondence/1748". Dates appear to range mainly in the 1740s. A series of pages appear to have been cut out of the book at center; blank pages at center as well.
