Description
A match holder (Dutch, c. 1880) made of silver in a cylindrical shape with decorative patterned banding. Superimposed above a pattern of Xs within circles, is a cartouche with what may have once been initials or a monogram. Above that is the assay office mark of the Netherlands, the head of the goddess Minerva, facing left. Stamped into the bottom of the container is the striding lion mark for the Dutch, and an unidentified maker’s mark of “AE” with possibly the number 3 above it.
