Description
An envelope stamp box (American, dated 1890) made of sterling silver with details in enamel and gold wash by the Gorham Manufacturing Company. The front of the envelope depicts an enamel 2 cent stamp with a man’s profile and a post mark reading “NEW YORK N.Y / 11 / 3PM / 92”. The back is similarly decorated with an engraved post mark reading “P.O. / 11.4.92 / REC’D” which marks the piece as being “received” by the post office on November 4th, 1892. Stamped into the underside of the envelope flap is “STERLING / PAT JUNE 21 90 / GORHAM MF G. CO”.
