Description
A pill box (Dutch, c. 1836) made of silver in the form of a basket of fruit. The hinged lid of the box consists of a raised edge containing a design of fruits and vegetables. Repeating fan shapes and a central blank shield are banded around the tapering basket-weave body which ends in a sloped foot. Attached to the sides of the basket body are small pendant loops. Stamped into the rim of the lid is an unknown mark of “G 144” and the Dutch date mark of “B” for 1836. The underside of the box also has the “G 144” mark and the passant Dutch lion.
