A stamp box (American, c. 1885) made of sterling silver by Tiffany & Co. Decorated in an Aesthetic Movement style, this compartmentalized stamp box consists of three sections with gold-washed interiors, all opening on individual back hinges. The top lid opens to reveal the Tiffany & Co. maker’s mark above “9578M5872 / STERLING SILVER”. Along the sides and top of the box are etched Japonesque chrysanthemum buds and flowers. Inscribed on the bottom is “ELLA” in script, likely for Ella Rives (later Ella Rives King, 1851 - 1925).
