Description
An Aesthetic Movement side chair (American, c. 1880) made of giltwood and mohair. Created in the taste of the Herter Brothers, this slipper chair sits on two frontal Neo-Greco inspired out-turned feet on fluted legs. The back legs are straight edged and continue up into the posts on the back of the chair, terminating in open-jawed lion heads. Simplified floral fretwork decorates the bottom and top rail of the backrest, broken up by a balustrade design. The seat of the chair is upholstered in a deep red mohair with a spotted pattern.
