Description
A group photograph of traders of Russell & Co. (Chinese, c. 1858). The photograph shows five traders of Russell & Company, in Canton, China. Three of the men are sitting with the remaining two between them. The men wear suits, cravats, hats, and some sport walking canes. Seated to the left is Mr. W. Forbes, in the center is a young Mr. David King Jr. of Kingscote, and on the right is Mr. Angus. The two standing men are unidentified. Russell & Co. was the largest American trading house in China in the mid-19th century.
