A set of five ivory brushes (French, Paris, c. 1890):
1-.3 - A set of three clothing brushes that vary in shape and size, produced by Paul Sormani of Paris. Each has a central green hand-painted monogram “JB” , for Josephine Brooks (1850-1920) (Mrs. Henry Mortimer Brooks), in script. The left side of each brush is inscribed with "P. Sormani Paris" in black block letters. Well known for their furniture, the firm of Paul Sormani also produced small luxury goods.
.4-.5 - A pair of ivory hairbrushes (French, c. 1890) that create a matching set with the clothing brushes. Both hairbrushes are oval with elongated oval handles. The tops of both feature the same “JB” monogram but in inlaid metal.
