Description
A statue of a seated bather (French, c. 1900) in the manner of sculptor Etienne Maurice Falconet (French, 1716 - 1791) attributed to Jules Allard & Sons of Paris. The nude figure’s hair is twisted back and loosely tied; she sits upon a fabric draped rock while she washes her left leg with the cloth in her right hand. The carved white marble of the sculpture sits atop a short verde antique marble base. Installed in the Ballroom of The Elms, originally the statue was in the Edward J. Berwind collection in New York at 2 East 64th Street and was moved to Newport following Mr. Berwind's death in 1936.
