Description
A pair of Chippendale style George II mahogany side chairs (English, c. 1755). The matching chairs have shaped crest rails elegantly carved with acanthus leaves and are centered by a stylized pagoda roof with pendant bells in bas relief. The crest rail surmounts an open back with pierced splats. The slip seats are covered in modern black leather. The chairs are raised on four legs, the front two are cabriole shaped with acanthus leaves carved at the knees and end in ball and claw feet, the plain rear block legs are slightly splayed.
