Description
A platter and two dessert plates (French, c. 1845) decorated at center with painted orchids against a white ground. The oblong platter and circular dishes have gilded scroll and leaf molded edges. Inscribed on the underside of each in green/brown glaze is the scientific name for the orchid it is decorated with. The underside of .1 (platter) reads “Cattleya Warscewiczii / Laelia anceps Pereiviliana” above “SEDK” (possibly the initials of the decorator). The underside of .2 (dessert plate) reads “Odontoglossum Rossii / SEDK” and is stamped in dark green with an interlaced “CM” in gothic script surrounded by the words “FRANCE /DEPOSE”. The underside of .3 (dessert plate) reads “Odontoglossum Schröderianum / SEDK” and is stamped with the same dark green mark described above.
