Description
A bowl (English, 1861-1887) manufactured by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons. The majolica bowl is decorated in the Japonesque style. Panels on the exterior feature raised relief pomegranate trees in brown pots against a white ground, between these panels are borders of incised diagonal blue bands, raised yellow geometric bands, and a large overlapping brown scale textured band around the body. The interior is glazed in turquoise. The whole is raised on five low pad feet. The underside is partially impressed “WEDGWOOD” along with the three-letter date code “NUP” (the year mark P was repeated by Wedgwood and indicates either an 1861 or 1887 manufacture date), it is hand numbed in red glaze “M / 3407” with four dots below.
