Description
A soup plate (English, c. 1891) produced by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, retailed by Richard Briggs Company, Boston. The plate has a heavy gilt border around the outer rim, between this and the inner gilt border is a delicate floral border with blue buds and green leaves. The rim decoration is set against a white ground. The underside is stamped in brown with the Wedgwood Portland vase mark, below the vase image it reads “WEDGWOOD / ENGLAND”, it is hand marked in blue “X7175 / A”, and stamped in orange with the Richard Briggs Company retailer mark featuring a banner with the company name above a crown encircling three feathers with “BOSTON” below.
