"New St. Mary's"

1886

An etching entitled “New St. Mary’s” (American, 1886) by John Hills Millspaugh (American, 1822-1894). The etching depicts the exterior of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Burlington, NJ, its tall spire rises into the sky and its long nave juts out into the landscape. Constructed between 1846 and 1854 the Gothic Revival style church was designed by the architect Richard Upjohn (American, 1802-1878). The etching is signed “Jno H. Millspaugh 1886” on the bottom right corner and again below the image.
