Description
A pastel on paper drawing of the Main Hall of Chateau-sur-Mer (Lithuanian, c. 1946) by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky (Lithuanian, 1875-1957). Executed for Edith and Maude Wetmore, the drawing depicts the northeast corner of the Main Hall with a furniture grouping comprised of a northern Italian ivory-inlaid armchair, a red and gold folding screen, and an English bracket clock on a table, all of which were sold at the 1969 Parke-Bernet Auction.
The Lithuanian artist Mstislav Dobuzhinsky was born in Novgorod, spent his childhood in St. Petersburg, and studied art in Munich. He is best known for his ballet and theater designs.
