Description
A nautical themed beverage marker (French, c. 1930) by the French designer Raymond Sudre. The Art Deco barware accessory is in the form of a 2-demionsal French sailor standing next to a flagpole with eleven colored enamel signal flags which pop out and serve as markers for drinks, at the base of the pole is a life preserver. On the reverse the figure is signed “Sudre” and marked “MADE IN FRANCE.” The whole is raised on a faux wood polymer base imprinted “A.L. DÉPOSE.”
Original to the bar at Ker Arvor, the former Newport residence of Col. Snowden A. Fahnestock (1886-1962).
