Description
A partial formal dinner and stemware glass service (French, c. 1920) attributed to La Cristallerie Saint-Louis, the oldest glass manufacturer in France. The pieces of the service (other than those indicated below) are decorated with gilt rims and bear the Great Seal of the United State of America. This service was used for the festivities surrounding Charles Lindbergh’s historic flight across the Atlantic and his welcome to Paris by American Ambassador Myron T. Herrick (1854-1929), May 21, 1927. The 144-piece service is comprised of:
18 crescent-shaped salad dishes
24 circular under plates for finger bowls
13 ruby Rhine wine glasses (7.75" x 2.5")
1 unrelated deep red tall stem
10 finger bowls
4 red wine carafes with stoppers
2 white wine handled carafes
4 small water carafes
12 champagne glasses ( no decoration other than gilt rims)
14 champagne glasses (4.5" x 3.875" x 3.875")
8 water glasses (6.25" x 3.25" x 3.25")
6 Burgundy glasses, gilt rimmed
6 small red wine glasses
9 sherry glasses (1.5 “ dia.)
9 cordial glasses ( 1” dia.)
4 liqueur thumb glasses ( .75” dia.)
