A gilt frame with gemstones suspended from a matching easel (French, late 19th century) containing a c. 1885 studio photograph of Alva Vanderbilt and her three children by W. Kurtz. Alva is pictured in a mourning ensemble as she would have been observing the formal mourning period for her father-in-law William Henry Vanderbilt who died in 1885. Left to right are her children William K. Jr. (1878-1944), Harold (1884-1970), and Consuelo (1877-1964).
