Description
A child’s Queen Anne slant front desk (American, 1750-1760) composed of maple, poplar, and mahogany, attributed to either Christopher (1701-1773) or John Townsend (1732-1809). The slant front is fitted with a brass key escutcheon at center, below two arms pull out to support the hinged front. The interior is fitted with two serpentine arch horizontal letter slots together with four arched vertical letter slots above four rectangular drawers with brass knob handles flanking a prospect door. The prospect door opens to reveal three concave vertical drawers. The whole is above a case containing three graduated rectangular drawers, each with two contemporary brass bail handles and a central brass key escutcheon. The desk stands on four tapered ball turned feet.
