Description
A leather fire bucket (American, dated 1831) with a bail handle and interior liner. The exterior of the bucket is painted dark green with yellow trim, the front is painted with white lettering and reads “NO. 1 / W.S. Nichols / 1831.”
William Stoddard Nichols (American, 1785-1871), a native of Newport, RI, was a silversmith by trade. Several examples of his silverwork are in the collection of The Preservation Society of Newport County, see PSNC.1969, PSNC.11563, PSNC.11547, and PSNC.1770.
