Description
A fireplace surround composed of glazed earthenware tiles made by Minton Art Studios, London. Framing the fireplace in the Library of Chateau-sur-Mer, the tile frieze along the top centers on a mask of Hermes flanked by fairies and cherubs with C-scrolls, clusters of fruits and vegetables, and two dolphins along the bottom. The tiles on either side of the fireplace opening depict the female allegorical representations of Prudentia and Justice, two of the Cardinal virtues.
