Description
A pair of George III silver tea caddies by Joseph Preedy (English, London, 1777). The tea caddies are of oval shape, the lid, rim, and base are engraved with a chain band border, the bodies are decorated with pendants strung with entwined floral and laurel garlands. On the front at center is an oval medallion with an unidentified coat-of-arms, the field is split with a rampant lion on one side and three snakes on the other. The lids are topped with urn shaped finials. The undersides are impressed with four hallmarks, an “a” date mark, a London city mark, an English silver mark, and Joseph Preedy’s maker’s mark of an “IP” in a square punch.
