Four Louis XVI style gilded bronze five-light wall sconces

Four Louis XVI style gilded bronze five-light wall sconces (French, c. 1900) by Maison Baguès of Paris, installed in the first-floor drawing room of The Elms. Each sconce has an elaborate backplate crested by curling leaves with a helmet, crossed trophies, and wings above a shield-shaped cartouche with diaper work flanked by acanthus leaves. The lower section features a mask with a feathered headdress flanked by oak and laurel leaf branches above scrolling rocaille and pendant flowers. The backplate supports five acanthus-clad block S-scroll candle arms terminating in large circular drip pans below fluted candle cups with waisted necks.
