Description
A Louis XV style giltwood console table (French, 1900) from the workshops of Jules Allard & Sons of Paris. The table has a shaped purple Breccia marble top above an apron carved with foliage and flowerheads. The central section of the apron has a pierced trellis design centering on a carved musical trophy of a mandolin, a clarinet, and a flute within a surround of acorns and oak leaves. The central section is flanked by medallions surrounded by curling leaves and floral garlands, the medallion on the left depicts a putto holding a sculpture bust, the medallion on the right depicts a putto reading. The whole is raised on six S-scroll cabriole legs, the two center legs headed by female faces. All of the legs are carved with foliage and terminate in scroll feet raised on pads, the legs are joined by an elaborate stretcher centering a platform with two draped putti.
