A Louis XVI Style Mantel Clock

A Louis XVI style mantel clock (French, 19th century) with the movement by Raingo Frères of Paris. The clock has a white enamel dial with the minutes and Roman numerals written around the face, “Raingo Fres” is written in script above the two clock hands, below this is written “A PARIS.” The clock face is covered by a domed glass cover and housed in a rectangular marble case overlaid with chiseled ormolu. The clock case is surmounted by the crossed trophies of a quiver and flaming torch, below this is a floral garland. The sides are decorated with classical vases containing flowering foliage. The circular face is topped by a bow knot with oak leaves, acorns, and a flower filled vase below. The rectangular base has outset corners and is inset with ormolu plaquettes. The whole is raised on four toupie feet. The back of the clock has a circular door which opens to reveal the interior clockworks. Engraved on a disk of the clockworks is “2661 / RAINGO FRES / PARIS.”
