A Louis XV Style Chaise Lounge

A Louis XV style chaise lounge (American, late 19th century) designed by Ogden Codman, Jr. (American, 1863-1951) and attributed to the manufacturer A. H. Davenport Co., Boston and East Cambridge, MA. The frame of the chaise lounge is painted green with the moldings and carvings painted in ivory/cream. The molded backrest is carved at the crest with a central coquillage (shell) surrounded by flowers and C-scrolls. The closed armrests are carved with scrolling foliage and rest of voluted supports. The shaped and molded seat rail is carved along the sides with groups of a central coquillage surrounded by flowers and a boarder of C-scrolls, matching the back crest. The whole is raised on five cabriole legs ending in scrolled toes, with stylized foliage at the knees. The backrest and seat are upholstered in a peach and silver striped fabric with bands of flowers.
