Description
A four-piece American Federal period tea service (American, c. 1810) made by William Garret Forbes (1751-1840) for the Talmage family. The set is comprised of a hinged-lidded teapot of neo-classical form with an ebonized side handle (.1), a side handled creamer (.2), a sugar bowl with two side handles and a knob finialed lid (.3a,b), and a slop bowl of square tapered form raised on a pedestal foot base (.4). All of the pieces are inscribed with the script monogram “ET”, raised on four ball feet, and impressed with the maker's mark "W. G. Forbes."
