"Winde"

late 19th Century

A Royal Vienna style portrait/cabinet plate entitled “Winde” (Austrian, late 19th century) signed Wagner. The plate is painted at center with the bust portrait of a young woman with blue eyes. She wears a chaplet/wreath of pink flowers in her lose wavy auburn hair and a white drape around her shoulders. The rim is decorated with an Art Nouveau border of leaves and flowers entwined with butterflies in gold on a royal blue ground. The plate is signed “Wagner” on the bottom right in the drapery covering the subject’s shoulders. On the reverse it is marked in blue with a 3 zoned shield.
