"Teresita"

A Royal Vienna style portrait/cabinet plate entitled “Teresita” (Austrian, 19th century) signed Wagner. The plate is painted at center with a bust portrait of a buxom young woman with auburn hair dressed up at the nape of her neck. She faces right in profile and wears a rose and white gauze drape around her shoulders, to the right of this drapery the plate is signed “Wagner.” The plate rim has an Art Nouveau border of gold lilies and leaves entwined on a rust ground with turquoise beading and a scalloped edge. On the reverse the plate is marked at center in under-glaze blue with a 3 zoned shield or beehive mark and on the bottom in black “Teresita / Dec: 556 / Dèposé.
