Description
A glazed clay tile (English, 1881) painted by T. Keeling after the portrait “Miss Penelope Boothby” by Sir Joshua Reynolds (English, 1723-1792). The oil-painted tondo portrait depicts a young blonde girl at half length wearing a mobcap and a white dress tied with red ribbon against a stylized hydrangea and blue sky background. The tile is signed “T. Keeling / 81” along the front right edge at center. On the reverse it is inscribed “Miss / Penelope / Boothby” and “No. 71” and stamped with an unidentifiable mark.
