Description
A silver tablespoon (American, Newport, c. 1820) made by William Stoddard Nichols (American, 1785-1871). The spoon has an egg-shaped bowl, the reverse of which is incised with a semi-circular drop, and a fiddle end handle engraved with the monogram “GRT” in fanciful Gothic script. The reverse of the handle is impressed with the touch marks “WSN” in an oblong punch at center and at the end with “NICHOLS” in an oblong punch.
