A hand colored lithograph entitled "The Manner in which the American Colonies Declared themselves Independent of the King of England, throughout the different Provinces on July 4, 1776" (English, 1783) engraved by George Noble (English, active 1795-1828) after William Hamilton (English, 1751-1801). Engraved for Barnard's "New Complete & Authentic History of England" published 1781-1783. The lithograph depicts a jubilant crowd of men and women gathered around a man on horseback reading The Declaration of Independence. The scene is set within an elaborate monochrome neo-classical surround surmounted with draped urns and decorated with bell-flowers and cartouches. Beneath the left corner of this surround the print is inscribed "Hamilton delin.", opposite this beneath the right corner it is inscribed "Noble sculp." The lithograph is housed in a giltwood frame.
