Photograph from the 1883 Vanderbilt Fancy Dress Ball album, taken by Jose Maria Mora (Cuban, c. 1847-1926), possibly depicting Mrs. W. H. Vanderbilt (Maria Louisa Kissam Vanderbilt). The New York Tribune described her costume as: "…as a duchess in a dark colored court dress trimmed with rare lace and jewels."
